April 2015 Newsletter

By Tom Davids

PLANT SALE…Spring is here and our plants for the sale on April 18 are ready for prime time. If you haven’t signed up for a shift you can do so at our meeting on April 17. We have about 40 ten inch basins filled with flowers and they really look good…a real bargain at $5. And, our four inch pot selection is outstanding with herbs, vegetables and annual color…more bargains at only $2. Plus Mary’s specially decorated succulent dishes and Carol’s beautiful succulents. Let me know if I can stop by your house and pick up plants you want to donate.

HANGING BASKETS…So far so good for the Laurel St. hanging basket program. Hopefully they won’t be retired as part of the 25% water use restriction mandated by the state.

LUNCH COMMITTEE…Lunch and table decorations for our April meeting will be provided by Dorothy Gould, Nancy Sharff, Joanne Daniels, Olga Erlichman, and Clair Sebald.

And…IN MAY WE WILL HAVE A POT LUCK…so you have time to plan which of your favorite dishes to bring.

BY-LAWS… At our next meeting we will vote on the revised by-laws so look over your copy and come prepared.

COMMUNITY GARDEN…Last month I mentioned a possible community garden alongside the Youth Center. In a few weeks, the 4-H club will clean the area and we will test plant one of the existing boxes and determine if there is enough sun.

SOUTH SIDE WINDOWS…As you know, the south side windows are in poor shape and cannot be repaired. Dave is getting bids on replacement. We expect a cost somewhere in the range of $10,000.

MOST WANTED…Still looking for a couple of members to help our frail members get to the luncheon meetings. Also, is there a team willing to plan and plant the south planter leading into our parking lot? Bill and I are working on the north side but we want to share the joy of planting.

See you at the meeting on April 17…if not before.
